Hammer Heads

We understand that there are numerous young and talented individuals. Unfortunately, some of these youth do not have the opportunity to apply their talent in the work force. As a result, Hammer Heads allows those unprivileged youth with opportunity. Essentially, opportunity in this case means the chance for education and a career. With hard work leads great success, and that’s exactly what these young adults achieve as a result of this program. They not only gain a job, but a life time career with a steady income, benefits for them and their families and pension for their retirement.

These youth come from a variety of different work backgrounds which allows for a broader scope from the traditional construction site. Interested students can apply through councillors at school. They are interviewed and explained what it takes to be an installator. They then are bussed to different training facilities of unions where they endure a six week program of theory and hands on work. Upon completion of the six week program which includes WHIMS and Health and Safety they can decide what trade they are most interested in. Upon successful entrance, students receive hard hats and boots.

We encourage interested applicants to apply.

  What is the Hammer Heads

The Hammer Heads Program is a skill and employment-based training program within the construction industry offering apprenticeship career opportunities to the youth of under-resourced neighbourhoods in our communities.

Without this program these youth would not have access to the gainful employment opportunities that the unionized construction sector offers.

The Central Ontario Building Trades has a history dating back to 1943. Currently, the COBT represents over 80,000 skilled trades men and women in central Ontario.
